For the Love of Candy Corn

Ahh...Candy Corn...it's pretty much a staple at our house this time of year. Except with Pops. He's a party pooper, because he hates the stuff. Actually, "hate" is probably too strong a word. He says he's a "dislike-er," a "non-care-er," or a "would- prefer-something-else-er." Ha!

        What about you? Candy Corn lover or hater?

His Eye is on the Sparrow

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

 I can remember my Grandaddy singing this song numerous times in church when I was young. I was always happy to hear him, regardless of the song he was singing on any given Sunday, but this is one that has always held a special place in my heart. As a youth, I never could have imagined the significance those words would one day have for me.

 Life isn't easy. That is just a fact. Sure, we all go through those times when it seems all is right with the world, but those moments are brief. All too often, we feel tired, stressed, and even overwhelmed. As a mother of 5 children, I know a little lot about these emotions. More than I care to. However, I have the assurance that God will lead me through my day with all that I need to accomplish His will...if I will let Him. Jesus clearly told us in His Word (Matthew 6:28-34) that if God clothes the flowers and feeds the birds, He will certainly take care of us. That's one lesson I have to let Him remind me of daily.

 I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me

 The key is in drawing closer to Him. I don't claim to be perfect in my spiritual life by any means, but I know that the more time I spend in prayer and in the scriptures, the more I feel His presence guiding me. I know I feel less stressed. And I know that if He sees each time a sparrow falls, He's also watching over me.

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He's watching over YOU, too!
